Frequently Asked Questions
for artists
-
Spider Tree Studios is a pop-up art brokerage. We bring your work into local venues like bars, restaurants, event spaces, and handle the marketing, hanging, and sales. You keep making art, and we handle getting it in front of buyers.
-
Spider Tree Studios is run by Maggie Miller and Jody Rogers, based in Kansas City. We started this because we wanted a lower-risk, lower-barrier way for local artists to get their work seen and sold, and for buyers to interact with and purchase approachable, affordable local art, all without the overhead of a traditional gallery.

There's a small hanging fee per piece, $20 per piece, or $10 per piece for your first show with us. This covers the time and work that goes into installation, and having a little skin in the game tends to make the whole partnership stronger for both sides. If upfront cost is tight, we can work out timing that makes sense, just talk to us. Beyond that, there's no studio rental fee. When a piece sells, we take a 30% commission to cover marketing, insurance, and show operations. You keep the rest.
That spot on the wall is yours for the run of the show. If a piece sells, you can replace it with another piece at no extra hanging fee.
-
We'll work through this with you directly using comparable sales for similar size, medium, and experience level. If you're not sure where to start, that's normal and exactly what this conversation is for.
-
Shows typically run for a month at a single venue. You're paid out within 21 days of sale via Venmo, Zelle or PayPal. We can also cut a check at the end of a show if you prefer.
-
Unsold work isn't a loss for you beyond the hanging fee already paid. At the end of the show, you can pick it back up, and we can talk about whether a price adjustment makes sense or if we have a place for it in another venue or show. We carry insurance on displayed work for the run of the show, so it's protected while it's with us.
